My name is Abdul Wahid; my right hand is removed accidently. We are 9 siblings, 6 sisters and 3 brothers. My father was a laborer but from last two years he could not manage to work regularly. it was difficult for him to manage all expenses being as a laborer. I always wanted to help my father and brothers to manage the  expenses so that we  can at least meet our basic necessities. One day my cousin told me about his  institute where he was getting training “LABARD Vocational Training Centre”. After that I visited LABARD and got to know about all the courses briefly. I was interested in computer so I selected computer applications course. I completed my training recently, I learned to communicate with people, motivation from Principal and psychologist enhanced my abilities and confidence level. On the basis of this I got job in Butt sweets as a sales man (Salary/- 18000 per month) but after that they asked me to design different notices and broachers. It was my biggest achievement. I am now a successful person who is surviving in society with the help of training I got.

My name is Sumaira Sharif Butt. I was 18 years old and doing my F.A when I got back bone injury in a road accident. Despite prolonged wheelchair for mobilization. We are 3 brothers & 3 sisters; I am the youngest between them. I complete my Intermediate in 2017 & now I am doing Graduation. One day my sister told me that, there is a camp in Munshi hospital bund road for disabled. I visited that camp they referred me to LABARD Vocational Training Center Muslim town for Vocational Training. I completed my Course in Computer Applications. After completion of course LABARD arranged ajob at Jublee Juzba branch. This job gives me a lot of confidence to earn my living and step forward with main community stream.

My name is Umair Iqbal and I am 25 years old. I am suffering from muscular problem in both legs. My father is unable to meet our household expenditures being a low level worker. One day a rickshaw driver of our village told me about LABARD which is working for rehabilitation of disabled persons. I visited LABARD Vocational Training Center and was selected for Mobile Phone Repairing Course. During the training, my instructor guided me to  perform mobile repairing work and improved my skills to do my job efficiently with full devotion. Conducive teaching environment provided to me during the course and motivation from Principal and Psychologist also enhanced my sense of responsibility.

Surrounded by uncertainty when he met an unfortunate accident, Abdul Monam ‘s story reflects a young man’s resilience in the face of adversity and his determination to find his own path to success. His family consists of six members. Since he belong to a poor family, he started ajob at a very early age to support my education and family. He is not a disable by birth. He was in 7th grade when he lost his right hand in an accident while working at a plastic  crushing machine. He was right hand writer so he lost his one year schooling after the injury. Itwas a very difficult time for him but he did not lose hope and learnt how to write with his left hand. He passed Matriculation from Govt. High School Sher Shah Colony Raiwind Road, Lahore.

My relationship with LABARD is not new as being the Senior Vice President of LCCI, I remained ex-officio member of LABARD’s Governing Body in 2015-16. The organization is doing commendable work for the rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and has provided them numerous opportunities to break away from their comfort zones and be a productive part of the society.

I feel immense pleasure at the publication of LABARD’s 9th Quarterly Newsletter. It is a humble effort on our part to apprise all the friends of LABARD about the recent/ongoing activities. It is only because of you that we have been able to impact the lives of thousands of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and through your support, provide multiple interventions to PWDs including vocational training, provision of employment, interest free loans and many more.

I also wish to congratulate the newly elected Governing Body Members and Office Bearers of LABARD and hope that they will play their role effectively by providing vision, leadership and concrete contribution to further expand the range of services for the disabled. I also commend the hard work of the staff and management of LABARD.
